Falls Creek To Mt Bogong and Mulhauser Camp via Grey Hills

2019 proposed route

 

We will meet at Mt Beauty Bakery at 8am on Friday April 12 and commence this 4 day walk at the Rocky Valley Dam wall Falls Creek and the delightful walk up Heathy Spur towards Mt Nelse. Continuing north to Warby Corner we will then take the track to the west to Spion Kopje. Before the start of the Grey Hills track we will find a campsite near a waterfall on the headwaters of the Big River - 11km 400m elevation gain

Day 2 we will continue along the Grey Hills track and over Mt Arthur and down to the Bogong Creek saddle and the second nights campsite. 10km 250m elevation gain - see the proposed route in red above and the contour map below

  Base Camp

 Day 3 will be the climb up the Quartz ridge - about 900m elevation gain over about 10.5km 900m to Cleve Cole hut

Day 4 features the Long Spur as we head east towards Mt Wills on the Australian Alps Walking Track until we turn off at the Mulhauser spur and descend to the cars at Mulhauser Camp - about 10km 410 m ascent

GRADE 4

Bushwalking experience recommended. Tracks may be long, rough and very steep. Directional signage may be limited.

  • Bedding 
  • Tent (sharing sections of the tent is an option)
  • Sleeping Bag
  • Bag Liner
  • Mattress

  • Bed Clothing
  • Thermals - top and bottom
  • Second layer - top and bottom
  • Warm Gloves beanie and dry socks
  • Keep clothing in a water tight bag - zip lock - dry bags etc.. 
  • Wet Weather / Cold
  • Rain jacket
  • Down jacket
  • Fleece jacket
  • Warm Gloves and Water Proof Over Glove plus a Benie or suitable walk hat.
  • Essentials
  • Tooth Brush and paste
  • Any medication ( please inform leader if necessary Allergies etc)
  • Personal first aid 
  • Water to drink and prepare meal ( some locations and walks have water on site or en route )
  • Leader should inform the group re water supply
  • Water purification such as pump, straw or tablets must be taken and used
  • Toilet paper and trowl to dig appropiate hole.

Food

  • Dehydrated food for weight considerations
  • 3 Meals , plus snacks.  per day.  
  • Stove (another item that can be shared) 
  • Plate and cuttlery 
  • Cup for warm drink  your choice

  • The club has 1 Personal Locator Beacon and 1 emergency SPOT device and 3 First Aid Kits

Multi Day Walks

Preparation and planning for multi day walks can turn into a monumental exercise. There is no substitute for working from a list. The bottom line is to ensure that nothing crucially important is forgotten and secondly that you can actually lift the pack off the ground and attach it to your body. Thirdly its a good idea to check out if you can walk with this encumbrance! 

Your leader may provide you with a detailed list of equipment and food you will require appropriate to the event being undertaken. 

 NOTE RE TOTAL FIRE BAN DAYS

Its club policy not to walk in forested areas of days of Total Fire Bans - inclement weather / bushfires are a real possiblity and will assessed prior to commencement of this event
