MVB Event Report Round Mountain Circuit
Began Day 1 at Round Mt Trailhead.
Walked to Dershko's Hut for night 1 and camped in tents outside the hut on a well maintained fire trail, with 3 concrete bridges over creeks offering plenty of water points 14.2km.
Day 2 Dershko's Hut to O'Keefe's Hut 7.3km on fire trail.
3 members left overnight packs under a tent shelter at the Tumut River crossing, took day packs and the SPOT and summited Mt Jagungal. Fog and cloud at first, but cleared on reaching the summit to have amazing views.
Lunch eaten on a rock outcrop about 1 hours hike from the summit. Returned via an old fenceline, crossing the headwaters of the Geehi River and investigating some interesting quartz outcrops, then back down the original trail which was nearly shoulder high in places, pushing through scrub, but on a well defined footpad, even though it wasn't easily visible until the branches were parted.

If the weather had been wet, we would have been extremely wet from this dense underbrush. Added an extra 6 km to hike. 2 member continued along the Grey Mare Trail to O'Keefe's Hut, which has recently been rebuilt and has phone reception.
Day 3 we walked back to Round Mt trailhead carpark via Farm Ridge track, which is very easy to miss because of the acute angle of the track and can be easily overlooked if hikers are chatting and looking out for it and aware of their surroundings. Very steep descent to the Tumut River, where water shoes were needed to cross and a cooling dip helped refresh everyone before the big climb back up the ridge, past the Round Mt Hut site (hasn't been rebuilt since 2019/20 fires, but there was a new toilet there). 16.5km
