Join Di Ross for the magnificent Huts Walk which takes in three important huts, each which represent an important place in the history of Australia’s Alpine region. We will meet and organize a car pool from icecreamery/cafe in Harrietville at 8.30am. Cafe is located in main street behind toilet block. The walk starts at the Mt Loch Reservoir car park. We head northerly along the Loch Ridge - Machinery Spur Track for 3 km. Then we take the Great Alpine Walking Track for about 1.5 km to Derrick Hut. Returning along the Great Alpine Walking Track for 500 metres we turn southerly and walk 2.5 km to Spargo's Hut. Spargo's Hut is one of the oldest intact structures in the resort and is State Heritage listed. Continuing southerly from Spargo's Hut along the Golden Point Spur track for 2.5km which is a steep descent until we reach the Swindlers Creek bridge which we cross and then climb 130m to reach Cobungra Ditch Walking Track

From there we head westerly to the junction of Cobungra Ditch Walking Track and the Davenport Access Track track, about 1.8 km. At the junction we continue northerly along the Davenport Access Track and turn southerly at the Blue Ribbon Track and walk 1.5 km to the Silver Brumby Hut. This hut was originally built in 1992 as a temporary film prop for the Australian movie "The Silver Brumby". It was meant to last about a week. The hut was rebuilt in 2006 - 2007. We retrace our steps back to the Davenport Access Track, Cobungra Ditch Walking Track junction, 1.4km. From there its 1.4 km to the start of the Davenport Access Track where we will have organised a car shuffle which would make a total distance of 18km.
